Starting May 27, 2027, you'll be able to board a plane at DIA and step off in Paris! United announced this week that it's launching daily, year-round nonstop service between Denver International Airport and Paris's Charles de Gaulle Airport, and I think it's worth a minute of your time even if you're not booking a trip anytime soon.
The details
- Start date: May 27, 2027, operating daily, year-round
- Aircraft: Boeing 787-9 (257 seats)
- Outbound: Departs Denver 8:35 p.m., arrives Paris 1:35 p.m. the next day
- Return: Departs Paris 3:45 p.m., arrives Denver 5:50 p.m.
- Airport: Charles de Gaulle (CDG)
This is the first-ever nonstop service between the two cities. With Paris added, United now flies nonstop from Denver to five European cities — Paris, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Munich, and Rome. Airport officials note that Paris is already Denver's second-largest market in Europe, trailing only London, so this isn't a speculative bet. It's United meeting demand that's clearly already there.
Why this is bigger than one flight
Zoom out and the Paris route is one piece of a much bigger build-out. By 2027, United expects to operate 204 nonstop destinations out of Denver — 179 domestic and 25 international, spanning 14 countries. DEN has spent the last several years quietly turning itself into a legitimate international gateway instead of a domestic hub with a few token overseas routes tacked on, and this is more of that pattern playing out. The Paris service will also sit alongside United's existing nonstop Paris flights out of Newark, Washington Dulles, Chicago, and San Francisco — Denver joining that list is a real statement about where the airline sees this market heading.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston said the new service "will bring our communities closer together," and DEN's interim CEO, Dave LaPorte, put it simply: "United's new service strengthens that connection while giving passengers more options."
There's also something to be said for the timing. A late-May launch means the route lands right as spring turns to summer — arguably the best stretch of the year to be wandering the Marais with a pain au chocolat in hand — and it gives United a full year to build the kind of loyalty that turns a new route into a permanent one.
Why I'm paying attention (and you might be too)
I'm not writing this because I think everyone reading my blog is planning a Parisian getaway in 2027, even though I think we probably all should. :) I'm writing about it because flight access is one of those quiet, unglamorous factors that shapes how people decide where to put down roots, right alongside school zones and commute times.
When I talk to clients who are relocating to Denver, whether it's for a job, for family, or for the mountains, travel access regularly comes up! Some of them have family overseas. Some have jobs that require international travel a few times a year. Some just want to know that if they get the itch to see the Eiffel Tower, they're not stuck routing through three time zones to get there. A direct flight to a major European hub is a small thing on paper, but it's the kind of small thing that makes a city feel more connected and more livable.
It's also a signal. Airlines don't add year-round daily international service on a whim; they add it when the data says a market can support it. United betting on Denver-to-Paris is United betting on Denver, full stop. They believe in its population growth, its business travel, and its appeal as a place worth flying to and from directly. That's the kind of momentum that shows up in home values and neighborhood demand long before it shows up in a headline.
So mark your calendar for May 27, 2027, start planning that trip, and take it as one more data point that Denver keeps leveling up as the best place to live.
